Piscine mosque
The abandoned swimming pool Mosque aka Solvay in Belgium.
Built in 1937.
It wasn't just a swimming pool, but had a restaurant, a casino and a theater.
The building was reserved for the workers and employees of the neighboring factory.
The company produced soda ash, especially for the glass industry, soap and textiles.
The building went through the decades and experienced the decline of the glass industry.
In the 1990s, the heirs of the family of Ernest Solvay donated the building to the Free University of Brussels and sold it in 2005 to a non-profit organization: the European Islamic Center for Culture and Culture.
This non-profit organization, seemed to be managing it in a chaotic manner: when it published its latest accounts in 2011, it had more than two million euros at its disposal.
Renovation work was undertaken but quickly stopped. And, for several years, the building remains in decay..
