Klooster Bree

An abandoned monastery somewhere in the Netherlands.

Built in 1914 by Walloon Carmelites.

The church was dedicated to ‘Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van de Carmel’ in Neo-Gothic style.

In 1927 the monastery was purchased by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, who established a philosophy school for the novice monks and nuns.

In 1969, it became a place reserved for prayer, led by the same congregation.

In 2001, the monastery was bought by the community of Bree. This established a Welfare Campus.

The existing monastery was sold to a project developer in 2011, who wants to transform the building into a retirement home.

These plans have been delayed and the monastery has been left in decay since then.
